Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Responsible Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automated Tools

Riau Jurnal Teknik Informatika (RJTI) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) and other automated tools may support certain aspects of research and manuscript preparation. Their use must be transparent, responsible, and subject to appropriate human oversight. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, integrity, and content of their work.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use generative AI or other automated tools to support manuscript preparation, including language improvement, editing, formatting, the development of initial ideas, or assistance in explaining technical concepts. All AI-generated or AI-assisted output must be carefully reviewed, verified, and validated by the authors.

Any use of generative AI beyond straightforward language correction, editing, or formatting must be transparently disclosed in the Declaration of Generative AI Use section of the manuscript. The disclosure should identify the tool used and describe the nature and purpose of its use. Where generative AI forms part of the research methodology, its methodological use should also be described in the Methods section where appropriate.

Generative AI and other automated tools cannot be listed or credited as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the submitted work. Generative AI must not be cited as a source or used as a substitute for appropriate scholarly references.

Generative AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent research data, experimental results, simulations, system evaluations, references, or other research findings. Authors are responsible for verifying all data, analyses, algorithms, references, code, and other content included in the manuscript.

Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all associated materials. Manuscripts, unpublished data, or confidential editorial information must not be uploaded to publicly accessible generative AI platforms or other tools where confidentiality, data protection, or appropriate handling of submitted material cannot be assured.

Reviewers and editors must not use generative AI to generate peer-review reports, editorial assessments, or editorial decisions. Scientific evaluation, critical judgment, and editorial responsibility must remain with the human reviewer or editor.

Use of Automated Tools by the Journal

The journal may use appropriate automated tools to support editorial screening and research-integrity checks, including similarity screening using Turnitin or iThenticate. Outputs generated by automated tools are not used as the sole basis for editorial decisions and are reviewed and evaluated by the editorial team. Final editorial judgments and decisions remain under human oversight.

Human Responsibility and Research Integrity

The use of generative AI or automated tools does not reduce or transfer the responsibilities of authors, reviewers, or editors. Human oversight and judgment must be maintained throughout the research, manuscript preparation, peer review, and editorial processes.

Suspected misuse of generative AI or automated tools will be evaluated according to the nature and available evidence of each case. Where the misuse constitutes research or publication misconduct, the journal may take appropriate editorial or post-publication action in accordance with its Publication Ethics policy and applicable Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance.
